Groovy Smoothie

25 Jan

What did you have for breakfast today?

Was is a bowl of cereal? An orange? Toast?

Or did you skip breakfast because of that calorie-filled dessert you had last night?

I had a smoothie.

I have a smoothie for breakfast every morning, afterall…”Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

Smoothies are a big thing in my household. My mother makes these really yummy (actually they are really nasty) smoothies. Kale, carrots, chia seeds, no sugar, little fruit….yuck. And the taste isn’t even the worst part. Would you ever drink something that looked like it came from an outhouse?

I didn’t think so.

I, on the other hand, make great smoothies. And the following recipes are directed toward my mom….maybe she can get ideas on how to make me drink something she makes….

Berry Healthy Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1 cup low-fat milk
  • 1 cup pomegranate (cranberry is an okay substitute)
  • 2 cups ice

Blend all together. Mom, you cannot use any other ingredients than these. I’m serious.

Super Healthy, Super Awesome Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup tofu
  • 3 tablespoons sunbutter
  • 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera Juice
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed oil

Blend, add a straw, and enjoy.

Silky Mango Smoothie

  • 1/4 c. mango (cubed)
  • 1/4 c. mashed ripe avocado
  • 1/2 c. mango juice
  • 1/4 c. fat-free vanilla yogurt
  • 1 Tbs. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 6 ice cubes

Blend together, pour in a tall glass, add a paper umbrella and a straw. :)

See (mom), healthy breakfast smoothies that taste great and looks yummy.

And to those who skip breakfast…stop. Smoothies are yummy and easy to make. And orange juice does not make breakfast!

Have a great weekend!
